Hamilton Island

Hamilton Island sunset 2

One of the most well loved – and busiest – of all the Whitsunday Islands, Hamilton Island is also the second largest inhabited island in the group.

It has some great beaches and amazingly clear blue water, plenty of things to occupy your time and it is also the perfect place to relax and unwind. Although the island is quite extensively developed – it has it’s own airport and a modern, full service marina – it certainly has not been spoiled and it is still possible to find some peace and quiet.

Easily reached with daily flights directly to the island, it’s also easy to get here by using one of the ferry services from the mainland and from other islands.

Golf: 2009 saw the opening of the Hamilton Island Golf Club, and it is the only island championship golf course in Australia. Designed by golfing champion Peter Thomson, it is a par 71, 18 hole course of over 6000 metres with perhaps the best scenery of any golf course in the world.

Water sports: of course being surrounded by such beautiful waters, Hamilton Island is the perfect place for water sports. Whether you just want to take a refreshing swim, or go snorkeling, diving, water skiing, fishing or sailing Hamilton Island has it all.

Walks: with almost three quarters of the island designated as National Park, you have the perfect opportunity to explore the protected flora and fauna. Over 20 kilometres of trails ranging from easy walks to more challenging treks, you won’t be sorry you made the effort.

The island is also a popular location for weddings with a choice of beach, garden or church setting for the ceremony, and plenty of venues to choose from for your reception. And a bit of trivia for you: Hamilton Island was featured in the movie “Muriel’s Wedding”.
