It is often said that the best things come in small packages, and with Daydream Island it is certainly the case. This beautiful island is a popular choice with couples and families and less so with backpackers than some of the other 18-30 orientated Whitsundays like South Molle Island.
This small island, once known as West Molle Island is barely one kilometre long and less than 250 metres across, and it is picture perfect: beautiful white sandy beaches, clear blue waters with a breath-taking backdrop of lush green tropical flora.
Accommodation on Daydream Island is available at the Daydream Island Resort and Spa, and despite the island’s petite size there are plenty of activities to enjoy – many of which are complimentary to guests of the resort as part of a package.
For guests with children, the Skippers Club provides lots of activities and games for ages six weeks up to twelve years. Plenty of fun for the kids, and some time for parents to enjoy their own activities.
Some of the complimentary activities for adults include use of the resort’s Kayaks & Catamarans, an open air cinema, a well equipped gym & spa, beach volleyball, tennis, shark feeding, water polo and more.
The island’s small size means that it is relatively easy to get around (although some parts can be steep), and it is well worth taking the time to explore. You should also get to enjoy seeing some of the abundant wildlife including kangaroos and a wide variety of birds.
Another feature of Daydream Island is the Living Reef, an impressive man-made open air aquarium where you can see and interact with sharks, stingrays, clownfish in amongst the colourful live coral. Qualified Marine Biologists are on hand to explain a bit about the marine-life and answer any questions you may have.
If you are interested in scuba diving, you can take lessons at the resort or if you are already certified to dive you can simply hire the necessary equipment and enjoy experiencing the amazing underwater world around the island and the surrounding Whitsunday Islands.
Many couples have chosen the island for their wedding, and it certainly is the ideal location for a memorable ceremony. The resort has staff that specialize in helping you have the most amazing wedding possible, and they can also help arrange your reception.
Daydream Island is easily reached by ferry from Abel Point Marina on the mainland and from Hamilton Island – contact Fantasea Cruises (1800 650 851) for more details. Helicopters also service the island.
