Guttermouth at Magnums Airlie Beach February 2nd

Notorious punk band Guttermouth from Huntington Beach in California will be playing a gig next month in Airlie Beach, at Magnums on the 2nd.

The band, who go as far back as 1988, are almost as famous for their antics as they are for their music: they were once banned from visiting Canada, and were “asked to leave” the prestigious Vans Warped Tour in 2004 due to their behaviour. Awesome : )

Tickets for the event are $25 in advance or $30 at the door, and can be purchased at the venue or through Oztix. Over 18s only, doors open at 7pm.

WhitsunDAZE January 1st 2012 Airlie Beach

Running from midday on NYD right through until Tuesday 3 am, you will get the chance to see 30 performers – local and international – across three stages. Acts include Tom Piper, Mr Wilson, LA Walker, DNA & Solex, Ben Morris & Venuto, Chris Coast and P-Boy featuring Robbie Gore.

NYE in Airlie Beach – Mama Africa “Heaven”

If you are still undecided on where to celebrate this coming New Years Eve in Airlie Beach, you may be interested in the “Heaven” party being held at Mama Africa.

DJs will include Sugarlips, LA Walker & the Miller Brothers, and there will be indoor fireworks and giveaways on the night.

NYE at the Down Under Bar: Summer Fling

If you are going to be spending New Year’s Eve in Airlie Beach and haven’t yet decided where to party, you may be interested in “Summer Fling” at the Down Under Bar.

Kicking off at an insane 10am on New Year’s Eve, the partying will continue on into the early hours of 2012. Live music commences from 5pm and DJs Micko, Jay Berry and Chris Leverington will be on the decks to keep everyone dancing.

There will be prizes and giveaways throughout the night, tickets are just $10.

NYE Fireworks in Airlie Beach

It has now been confirmed that there will be two firework displays in Airlie Beach this New Years Eve: one at the traditional time of midnight, and one at the more family-friendly time of 9pm.

Let’s face it, you can’t really see in the New Year without fireworks: thanks to everyone who contributed their time and/or money.

So the funds have been raised, and council permission for the displays has been given: don’t miss out, see in the new year with a colourful flash and a bang (or two).

Fundraiser Night for Sam at Mama Africa

If you are in Airlie Beach tonight, drop into Mama Africa to support a great cause and have a fun night too. All profits from the event go towards local youngster Sam and his brave fight against cancer.

The theme of the night is a Doctors and Nurses Party and there will be prizes to those with the best costumes. If you can help support this cause it will be very greatly appreciated.

You can expect a night of nothing less than excellent music from DJs LA Walker and Sugarlips, and the doors open at 10pm. Don’t miss it.

Club Med Lindeman Island to close…

Club Med have just announced that they will be closing their resort on Lindeman Island early in the new year.

Club Med have run the resort – the only one they have in Australia – since taking it over back in 1992. The announcement reports that it will cease to operate from January 31st 2012.

Although the news is being reported by some outlets as a “shock”, there have been rumours as to Club Med’s commitment to the resort for some time. The resort was particularly popular with families due to it’s all-inclusive packages and relatively low cost for the region, but in recent times it had gained a reputation for having a somewhat run-down feel.

The seeming lack of the company’s re-investment in the resort coupled with occasional tales from staff to guests about Club Med being about to pull the plug make this not totally unexpected news to some.

Regardless, it feels a bit like the end of an era. Hopefully the resort can find a buyer who can restore it to former glories. Good luck to the staff, for more details on the closure see this story.

Magnums NYE Party 2011

This may be a little early but what the hell, it’s almost December already: here’s some info on the 2011 NYE party at Magnums in Airlie Beach.

Headlining the night is Sydney based singing and rapping artist MC Lady Lauren, who has performed at countless clubs and festivals both here and overseas. She has recorded with top producers including Andy Van, Craig Obey and Audiophreaks.

There will be a heap of live entertainment taking place over three rooms, and bands performing include Grand Theft Audio and Brisbane based The Butterfly Effect. The fun will continue on until 5am. Tickets are available from the venue.

P-Money at Mama Africa

If you are looking for something to do in Airlie Beach this Sunday night, get yourself down to Mama Africa to see acclaimed DJ P-Money on the decks.

P-Money has won numerous awards over the years for his DJing – including the DMC New Zealand Championship in 2001 and “Best DJ” at the Australian Urban Music Awards in 2006.

As a producer he has also collaborated with major artists like Akon and Roc Raida, having released three albums. Don’t miss his session here in Airlie Beach – doors open at 10pm and quite incredibly entry is free.

A foodie’s take on Airlie Beach

I enjoy dining out as much as the next person but unfortunately I was not blessed with a particularly great palate, so it was interesting to read the dining adventures of a visiting foodie: Lorraine Elliot of the blog NotQuiteNigella.com.

She spent some time dining in and around Airlie Beach, as well as visiting local markets and farms including Whitsundays Hydroponics.

It sounds like the Tides Restaurant at Peppers Coral Coast has some amazing dishes, I will have to check it out.
